in 1989, an italo-house act sueño latino released a self titled track, which went on to become one of the most revered electronic music records of all time. louis botella is now set to release a sensational remake on emerald city this september. the track itself samples part of manuel göttsching�s influential e2-e4, an album known for its role in the development of house and techno. fast forward to 2018 and the record is again set to be revived thanks to louis botella, and with the blessing and support of göttsching and expanded music. on his interpretation of the track, louis has stayed true to the original, replaying each part and adding an extra dimension to the tracks through a sparkling piano topline, a new vocal hook and dreamy arpeggiations. louis� passion for the art of djing was sparked from a young age. at sixteen he got his first gig at a club in luxemburg and released his first record in 1998. since then, he�s released on respected labels such as classic music company, ovum records and poker flat recordings.

it doesn t get much bigger than this: adam beyer links up with green velvet and drumcode s outstanding rising star layton giordani for a debut collaboration. some musical partnerships feel fated. both fans of one another s work, for years adam beyer and green velvet had discussed writing music together. in turn, beyer s protégé layton giordani had admired the chicagoan s work for as long as he could remember. when the 25-year-old found himself playing alongside the green mohawked legend at belfast s shine, the spark and subsequent friendship was immediate. with the links now set in place, it was only a matter of time before the trio s creative chemistry would manifest musically. �space date was conceived organically and birthed quickly. propelled by green velvet s trademark vocal hypnotism, the triumvirate combine to craft a pumping intergalactic slice of techno laced in melody that s highlighted sets by beyer at awakenings, ushuaia and also edc vegas when green velvet dropped it to a raucous response. the track is complimented by rome future , the product of a year-long series of productions between beyer and giordani. deftly combining crisp drum work, catchy vocal effects and a powerful bassline melody that gives the track an almighty kick, it will be familiar to many who ve followed their sets over recent months.

label head honchos rhode & brown finally debut on their own imprint, slam city jams, after putting out music on fellow labels toy tonics and public possession. produced over the past two years, the wave 100 ep might be the most versatile record by the munich-based fellas so far. on the title track we have an euphoric hint of 80s synth nostalgia, slapped bass and banging woodsticks (did someone say safri duo?!). sparkle on a2 feels like the joy of a fresh breeze on hot summer days whilst living la vida loca in the clouds - b/w phat bass, sweet flutes & strings. on the flip there is love lane, a classic house track with a funked up bassline, shuffling snares and the most erotic vocal in human history. moon bells on b2 is the soundtrack to that road trip you did back in 86 with a juno 106 arpeggiator bassline, percussive drums and airy synths all around. over europe on b3 rounds off this special 5-tracker with beautiful ambient spheres straight from outta space.

a new adepth audio record featuring canadian rennie foster, including a remix of nomadico (dj dex/underground resistance). the title track witch hazel is a 9 minute long track with no breakdown and a minimal approach to arrangement, with organic elements cycling in and out subtly rather than obviously beginning and ending. a rolling half time, tribal groove drives the power of the track with a haunting vocal sample and layers of percussion creating a heady, polyrhythmic hypnosis on the dance floor. not since rennie s well known devil s water has he presented such an overtly occult offering as this extremely finely crafted ep, and this song represents the initial seduction of the record to the listener very effectively. the second track, navigator, is a drum machine driven workout, again with a polyrhythmic and tribal vibe, this time drenched in a rich, holographic pad that morphs and moves in unexpected ways. minimalistic in presentation, this track is bass heavy and functional for the dj, yet artistic and emotional. the nomadico remix by dj dex of underground resistance takes the elements of witch hazel and re-constructs them in a futuristic style with a more driving kick and molten detroit attitude. a heavier techno approach to the piece, but still intact is the melancholic atmosphere of the original and siren song of the vocal sample. this mix includes a dramatic breakdown and unique arrangement familiar to fans of nomadico s awesome yaxteq label. the last track on the ep is called crossing the boundary is possibly the only track in this style to sample distorted vocals usually associated with black metal, making this a very unique, perhaps polarizing, experiment in sound. evocative of the desolation of deep space and suggestive of sonic dark matter. this track combines rennie s singular approach to dub techno with ambient and drone music and the result is like nothing else currently in existence.

new yorks avision makes his debut on ben sims hardgroove imprint with culture, an ep comprising four memorable and kinetic techno cuts and including an edit from sims himself. having previously cropped up on mark brooms beard man imprint, avision (real name anthony cardinale) has a knack for turning in gritty grooves that draw on earthy, discoid constructs and thats exactly what we have here with culture. from the eponymous opener throughout, staccato stabs characterise and propel the tracks in different ways whether via rolling, almost-there disco loops, gleefully abrasive call and response rhythms or, in the case of sims edit of jux, nifty vocal sample interplay. true to hardgroove form, culture is a release crafted for the dancefloor and delivers with exacting precision.

"texas-based electronic music producer phillip washington aka cygnus was on bit of a hiatus since his phenomenal -cosmos- long play on fundamental records, released near the end of 2016. with this ep, titled -ne0 ge0-, he s breaking the silence and we re extremely happy to see it happening through barba imprint. the record consists of 4 cuts; -zone shifting-, -vertexing-, -ne0-ge0- and -astronoot- which all share common qualities of his previous work - deep, spacey, richly textured and really well crafted. -zone shifting- is what electro in 2018 should sound like. deep, emotional and futuristic but well grounded in the human condition through the vocal line which seems to haunt from the distance. -vertexing- is a slightly more paced, moodier affair with slow enveloping vangelis-esque synth lines bleeding all over traditional electro sounding beat. however, in this case that s exactly what s needed. title track, -ne0-ge0- is the first one on the flip side and the busiest one. creasing of multiple synth lines and pads is done in such an expertly elegant manner that you just can t resist but play it loud on a big soundsystem and see what it does to the dancefloor. and finally, record closes with -astronoot-, and as b2 tracks usually are - it s the deepest of them all, reserved for those heady moments when you need something to bring the magic to the next level."

vast, expansive and introspective works utilising place-specific found sound on this second cremation lily lp for alter. contemplating mortality, illness and the perennial bleakness of british winter in a seaside town we find zen zsigo experimenting with piano, violin, synthesiser and walkman tape players. layering field recordings of the hastings shoreline atop druggy, stretched out 303 basslines and snippets of spoken word there seems to be an overarching thematic of memory and reflection at play. from vignettes of crumbling glass and bittersweet drones through to sprawling, semi-rhythmical pieces (�as a sea creature...�) it seems as if zsigo is trawling the coast for fragments of its former glory. the end result of his study manages to echo the work of yoran, leyland kirby and even jacob kirkegaard yet the rare moments where he lays bare his own vocal narrative seemingly transforms in england now, underwater into sonic diary territory. mixing salt-water soaked cassette loops with haunting, minimalist piano motifs and warped recordings of crashing waves and bird noise an intense atmosphere of ballards drowned world is evoked through sound.

when i first stumbled across mix tapes out of hamburgs seminal front club (with klaus stockhausen and boris dlugosch at the helm) during the glorious and carefree early days of the popularized internet, there were certain tracks on them that struck a chord. in fact there was one specifically, i couldnt stop listening to. the mixture of an infectious bass line, a super sharp snare, music and harmony vocal snippets, happy claps and synths lines that evoked pictures of a convertible going down a coastline, and - to top it all off - a tribal chant, was irresistible. after some intensive track-id-hunting pre-shazam, i found out that the heaven-sent hymn was music by an act called syncbeat. originally released in 1984 during the craze that was called uk electro via street sounds resp. streetwave and later licensed to german omnivore zyx records. a joint venture between the electro-funk mastermind,dj pioneer and edit maestro greg wilson as well as manchester musicians martin jackson & andy connell, it is exactly that type of dance track that eludes any classification - as you can see from my description above. or to cite greg wilson himself from one of his essays on the subject of uk electro: the track that received the best response was music by syncbeat, which was full of good vibes and could have easily been re-vamped down the line as a house track.

the masterful trio of timo mass, basti grub and eric volta showcase their combined musical muscle on the latest release forthcoming on supreme berlin imprint, mobilee. with an impressive remix package featuring rodriguez jr. and tiefschwarz. over two years in the making, �we were riding high� is a lucid after-hours track with an uplifting and catchy vocal hook that unfolds and develops fluidly. the alternative edit utilises dark synths and drums, retaining the positivity that make this track perfect for the last summer month. this record is the result of eric volta making the demo at an after-party at his studio. he then showed this to timo mass who in turn showed it to basti grub who loved the track so much, they were inspired to develop it. two time grammy nominated timo maas has an extensive musical background, spanning over thirty years. he�s worked with some of the world�s biggest stars including madonna, depeche mode and fatboy slim. basti grub heads up his own label, höhenregler, and is known for his exotic, african-influenced productions. he�s released on some premium labels including cocoon, get physical, desolate and cr2. born in london but very well traveled, eric volta shot into the spotlight with love your illusion and since releases on dirtybird, visionquest, four:twenty recordings among others.

next up on nang it is time for a slice of spot-on male vocal house and disco. liverpool based thomas lang made some fine albums in the 80s and 90s with john murphy (who went on to carve a highly successful career in movie tracks) and david hughes. somewhere in between that and a string of recent albums (�torch songs� and �the german alphabet�) he also managed to buy one of the finest recording studios in north west england, parr street studios (the �abbey road of the north�). we are pleased here at nang to see a new avenue turned in tom�s life, his first foray into the dance world. �scared� was written with late liverpool songwriter john uriel quite some time ago. it first emerged as a b-side to tom�s comeback single �august day� in 2011. here at nang we always loved the smooth and sophisticated vocal and melody. when tom suggested some remixes we were on board.

anyone who has followed the dj sets of adam beyer or dutch ally bart skils, would be familiar with the stirring vocal and thundering impact of your mind . while the track begun as a tool, the reactions when tested out were so momentous they decided to turn it into a full track. together they teamed up to add more percussion, snares and a rolling acid line to complete its transformation. the result? one of 2018 s most powerful techno weapons highlighting time warp, awakenings and ultra music festival, to name just a few.
